About The Program
What You Will Learn In The Classroom
Our program focuses on the field-related skills and knowledge that are required of a dental assistant, including:
- Educating patients and their families regarding dental health
- Providing chair support to the dentist
- Preparing patients for dental examinations
- Sterilizing and maintaining instruments and equipment
- Ordering dental and office supplies
- Performing reception and clerical duties
- Taking and developing x-rays
- Scheduling and invoicing dental exams

What You Will Learn In The Labs
Medix’s Dental Assisting students have the opportunity to provide dental services to patients at the University of Toronto. Prior to working with patient’s chairside, students will demonstrate their oral evacuation skills on a student
partner. At U of T, students will demonstrate their ability to implement chairside dental care that has been introduced and practiced in courses from Terms I and II. Working with a dental student in the Faculty of Dentistry, students will provide dental services to patients with maximum comfort and safety. These skills will be practiced and evaluated under direct supervision by Medix dental assisting faculty.
Additionally, Medix students in the dental assisting program have the opportunity to provide preventive dental services to patients where they will be able to demonstrate competency in intra-oral skills. Students will demonstrate the ability to plan and implement dental care that has been introduced and practiced in courses from Terms I and II. Working with fellow classmates and/or on patients, students will complete requirements for entry level intra-oral skills. Intra-oral charting, preliminary impressions, application and removal of dental dam, coronal polish, fluoride application, patient education, pit and fissure sealants, desensitization and radiographs will be practiced and evaluated under direct supervision of a dentist and dental assisting faculty.

TPI-MAS helps students recognize the choices they have in life and how to control how they think to change the way they live their lives. Students will understand how the human mind works and how their beliefs and attitudes influence the present and shape the future. The program encourages students to have a positive outlook and strive for goals despite any challenges and obstacles.
The Enriched Academy program will teach you how to manage your money and build a solid financial future.
What You Will Do During Career Search
Why choose the Dental Assisting Program at Medix College?
Practical skill-building and a practicum component are used to give students a well-rounded understanding of the role of the Dental Assistant. During the course of this program, students will learn all of the skills and be trained in all the procedures that will be required of them in their new careers.
As a mandatory component of our programs, all Medix students are required to complete a 150-hour off-site externship placement. Placements occur at various locations throughout the college’s area. This essential module allows students to exercise the skills learned in class & clinic, learn specific applications and to further enhance their learning experience in the selected facilities.
Medix College also provides an employment advantage as we have established relationships with many employers in the field. As a result, employers in the field contact us before posting jobs to the general public giving current students and graduates of the program an advantage in the hiring process.
